Lavin is an artist based in Galway working in oils, painting life as it presents itself. Darkly humorous, his infectious character-driven love letter to the west coast of Ireland is on his canvas and in his person and his musicalty. He has created poster art for the Cruinniú na mBad and Cuckoo Fleadh (Kinvara’s yearly festivals), album covers for various artists, exhibited in County Galway and County Clare, and currently resides and works in Mulroog, Kilcolgan.
I make oil paintings of life in the West coast of Ireland. The emotional response I get from the landscapes I see, stories I hear and people I meet are what drives my work. My style and how I chose subject matter is integral to my work, and being self-taught, is idiosyncratic. With my art I want you to laugh, to drink pints with the locals, to breathe the air, be frightened, and feel the strange beauty of where and when I live.
